  1. What comes to my mind is beaches, mountains, trees and parks. I would like to visit mountains because I would like to climb them. Weather and geographical features are important to me. I don't know anything about Iceland.

The purpose of the article is to describe a place in detail.

  2. Hello Miss!!!
The article it`s sad to read but the reality hit us on our faces, the world is never ready for a pandemic. The education is weak in our latin countries, and also the solidarity has been lost at hard times. The school is not the one that I runned as a child I feel, and the illiteracy in our neighborhoods increased. This story about the singe mom and her children is more common than we use to think, and it`s hard to be in charge when there`s not support, the government is absent and this we feel strongly at education, the children need to be protected, ensure their education, and on this part I ask myself where is the State?. They must work for people to have the essential needs, otherwise this will continue happen year after yaer, with or without pandemic. After all, the pandemic just made visible the countries weaknesses.

  3. Hi miss, in sum this is the article´s subject:
Due to this second year of the pandemic, Latin America is facing an education crisis, children in primary and secondary school are dropping out to work in large and alarming numbers. Latin America has been hit harder than any other part of the world all because of the economic inequalities of the region, where the access to education is highly limited for poor students and racial minorities, turning education into a privilege for those in no need to work to survive

  4. Hi everyone!

The article is sad but at the same time is very realistic. Due to the pandemic, Latin America was affected in many ways. However, I think that the consequence that will persist the most over time is going to be this educational crisis. In many countries of Latin America and even in our country, Argentina, many students are still in full or partial distance learning. This affects children in many aspects, not only in learning, but also in their development and participation in society. The article explains that the consequences are alarming, officials and education experts say that many kids risk dropping out of school forever, and on the other hand, many kids risk of not being able to adapt again to the presensial modality, among other problems. This story shows the reality of many families who are struggling day after day so that they children can receive a good education. Education should not be a privilege only for a few children. Instead of this, everyone should have the possibility of accessing a good education, with access to the internet and with the possibility of continuing to learn day by day.

    Have a nice week!

  5. This is a discouraging but highly realistic article about the educational crisis that Latin America is going through in the pandemic.
The statistics are disappointing, the children leave their classes to work since they cannot continue their classes due to not having enough resources.

I can't speak for every country in Latin America, but here in Argentina we have an education problem,we have brilliant people and children with great potential and they are not being utilized correctly,or at all.

  7. Hello teacher, I leave you the summary of the article:
Latin American students are dropping out of school in large numbers.
With the region's economies affected by the pandemic and connections to classrooms so worn out, elementary and middle school children are sometimes dropping out of school to work where they can.
Due to an avalanche of school dropouts, it threatens to set back years of the hard-won process, exacerbating inequality.
The pandemic has taken an unbearable toll around the world. But Latin America has been more affected than any other part of the world.

  8. Hello miss Sturla, the article talks about Latin America and the education system in a pandemic context. We have an example, Ms. Vasquez, a Colombian mother. Her children did not have internet connection and they lost virtual classes during quarentine. They left school and the same thing happened with a lot of children in all Latin America. We can see that here in Argentina, many children do not have computers, internet or family members who can help them with class work. It's really sad but it is the reality that we have to face every day.

  9. Hi there! I hope everyone is ok.
About the article, because of the pandemic Latin America is facing a very bad time . Due to the economic situation, children have dropout school because they don't have what they need to complete their classes, so they start working to help their families.
It is alarming the amount of out-of-school children that are going to be at the end of the pandemic.
I hope the situation improves soon.

  10. Latin America is one of the continents where the pandemic affected a lot of families and it's difficult to contrarest this issue due to the inequality of each country. This problematic impact on the education of so many children, as we know, is a fact that nobody has the same resources to confront the situation. Especially when we are talking about school, some people don't have the possibility to access their classes because they don't have Internet, cell phones or computers. To be more specific the article tells the reality of a single mother with four children, who doesn’t have the enough resources to help them, and since the health emergency started, two of her daughters lost contact with their teachers and one of her sons, Maicol doesn´t understand his homework.
The truth is that education is a privilege and everyone must have it, but due to the context of the pandemic we see the reality of some many families who don't have the resources like Ms. Vazques to beat this hard situation.

  11. Hi Sandra, how are you doing? I´m feeling a bit sluggish (did you get it? Because I´m commenting a bit late ;D)
Well, let´s get back to the topic, Shall we?
The Pandemic gave a hard blow to the entire world, and it became a huge problem for the poorest countries and cities. As we can read on this hearthbreaking Interview many childrens loose the chance to go to school, or even worse, they have to work in unhealthy and unsafe conditions.
From my point of view all this is not only a educational problem (due to the inability to keep students in the educational system), this is also a Generational problem that will carry on in the future, leading to a greather gap between the different social stratums (more poor people and less qualified people)
I think that we, as future teachers, should focus into improving this situation overall little by little, one step at a time.

Deep into the second year of the pandemic, Latin America is facing an education crisis. It has suffered the longest school shutdowns of any region in the world, according to Unicef, nearly 16 months in some areas. The pandemic has claimed a large number of lives related to death, but it has also created a particular long-term problem...This problem has to do with education and how children who have been violated in this. In other words, their right to a decent education has been violated. Because not everyone had the means of communication where homework was sent or classes were taught. There are many factors that have to be resolved in terms of education. No one was prepared for this

The article is about children who have dropped out of school during the pandemic, in Latin America. 15. HI SANDRA! Sorry for the delay. I’ll leave my answers here.

First, the article talks about the shoking collapse of education in Latinoamerica because of the pandemic, and it specifically talks about a family in Bogotá made of a mother, Gloria, with her children who works non-stop and dreams of giving them a better future with dignified education but living in a situation with lack of opportunities to leave a place of increasing poverty and inequality. During the pandemic, Gloria's children dropped out school and they couldn’t apply or follow their classes because they haven’t got computers or internet and for these reasons, some of them had increasingly taken on the role of workers or parents of their little siblings.
    Activities:
    1) Pre-Reading:
When I hear this phrase it moves me to places like the 7 Wonders of the World, places with tourist attractions, with amazing landscapes and towns, with a lot of fun activities to do; I would like to visit some of them, and I am specially struck by the Egyptian Pyramids for all the history that I learned at some point and by the way, Rome is also in my list.
I think the weather is important because I hate high temperatures. As I said earlier, sights can persuade you to choose that place and, to tell the truth: culture, traditions and people may be a good filter. I would not choose a place where I cannot remain free or where my rights aren't respected. Also not where people are rude or ungrateful with tourist.
The only thing I honestly know about Iceland is that is an island, near Greenland, in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The differences that I can find between Iceland and Argentina are that here, there aren't periods of 3 months of day and 3 months of night, and the weather depends on where province you are. In Buenos Aires, the most common temperature could be 20ºC, more or less.

See you! Have a nice weekend!

The main character of this story is Gloria, whose children dropped out school during pandemic because they couldn't assit to their virtual classes as a consequence of their inaccessibility of the tools necessary for them. As a result of that they became young workers. This situation reflects one of the thousands that children from all over the world, and more specifically from Latin America, went through during this two years. Time passed and no one was prepared for this, but we cannot stay in the past and we must bet to replace as soon as possible the lack of education that these children had during these years and look for a way that those who dropped out of school can be integrated again.
